Up the hill in five minutes
Moto-taxis and kombis
Moto-taxis and shared kombi vans wait beside Praça do Vidigal, at the bottom of Avenida Presidente João Goulart, and run up the main road to the top of the hill. A guide updated in December 2025 gives about R$10 a ride for either. Agree the fare before you get on.
Kombis leave when they are full. A moto-taxi to the Vila Olímpica at the top takes about five minutes; on foot it is about 2 km uphill. With luggage, do not take a moto-taxi: ask Bruno to arrange a car.

Bottom of Avenida Presidente João Goulart, at Avenida Niemeyer
There are two stops on Avenida Niemeyer at the square. The one on the square's side serves buses toward São Conrado and the West Zone; the one across the road serves buses toward Leblon and the rest of the South Zone.
Transit listings show lines 109, 557, 2334 and 2338 and the vans 2101 and 2102 on this stretch, but lines change often. Check Moovit or Google Maps on the day. A traffic light and the Chácara do Céu footbridge help you cross the avenue.

The nearest Metro station is Antero de Quental on Line 4, in Leblon, about 1.6 km in a straight line from the Vidigal entrance. Jardim de Alah is about 2.2 km away and São Conrado station about 2.1 km, or about 1.4 km from the top of the hill.
Line 4 runs east to General Osório in Ipanema, where it meets Line 1 for Copacabana and the city center. From Vidigal, reach the stations by bus or Uber along Avenida Niemeyer. Our guide to getting around Rio covers fares and the Jaé card.

Uber, taxis and airport transfers
Some taxi and Uber drivers prefer not to drive up the hill because of the narrow roads and traffic, so you may be dropped at the bottom by the square. Bruno recommends a driver who lives in Vidigal and knows the streets, and the Airbnb listing offers an airport pickup for a flat fee, R$120 when we checked in 2026. Confirm the price when you book.

Small markets on the hill, supermarkets in Leblon
Groceries and shops
The main road has small markets, bakeries and snack counters for everyday things: bread, fruit, water, beer and cleaning products. For a big shop, the Zona Sul supermarket on Rua Dias Ferreira in Leblon is about 1.4 km from the Vidigal entrance; directory listings say it is open 24 hours, but confirm before a late run.

How to pay
Cash, Pix and cards
Carry some cash for moto-taxis, kombis and small counters. Pix, Brazil's instant bank payment, is widely used, and many places take cards, but not all. We could not confirm a working cash machine inside Vidigal; the banks and ATMs of Leblon are about 1.3 km away.
A new public family-health clinic, the Clínica da Família Rodolpho Perissé, opened on 28 March 2026 at Rua Doutor Olinto de Magalhães 53, in lower Vidigal. It has consulting rooms, vaccinations, dentistry, lab sample collection and a pharmacy for its patients. Part of the older municipal health center at Avenida Presidente João Goulart 735 moved there.
The public map shows small pharmacies on the main road, and the chain pharmacies of Leblon are about 1.2 km away. In an emergency call 192 for an ambulance, 190 for the police and 193 for the fire service.
The apartment does not have a washing machine or a dryer. Cleaning service is available on request for an extra charge, and Bruno can tell you which laundry he uses.

How much is a moto-taxi up the hill?

Will an Uber take me to the apartment?
Sometimes. Some drivers stop at the bottom of the hill because of the narrow roads. Ask Bruno for his recommended driver or book the airport pickup offered on the listing.
